Mobile Dev & Design Mockup
Hey Everyone,

Here's the mockup for Mobile Dev & Design's homepage.

The idea behind this design is that for the article pages, the top container containing the 'top story' and 'latest top stories' will disappear allowing the 'Categories' bump up to the top of the site. This allows users a better opportunity to cross browse across all sections of MDD after reaching the target page (the article page).

For all other pages (one-stops and homepage), the top container is viewable allowing category-specific content to be featured.

Nice Gene.
I like the visual cue for the left navigation. My only question there is if the orange might draw the user away from or past the top stories section. I missed it a bit although I like how the top section is treated.
That's a lot of content to have to deal with and it is put together nicely. Maybe the middle column might do better without images?

In the middle column, if the article has an image, the front page will pull the article title and its corresponding image, else it'll display title and teaser.

I incorporated the images because I felt that with only text on the front page down the middle, it'll be very text-heavy. There isn't much typographical treatment so I went with the image route to help break up the design a bit.

As for the orange, I'll look into desaturating and possibly lowering the level. I wonder if the size at which your viewing the mockup affects the contrast between orange tab and the upper rectangle... hmmm.

I like this a lot, Gene. I was thinking the same thing as Terry, re: the Orange, but I think you might be right ...when this is viewed full screen I don't think I would overlook the feature box. But why no actual screen shots of Dr. Horrible? ;-)

One other thing, my eye naturally skims past the Engineering TV box at first, reading it as some sort of ad box. Not sure if there's a way to avoid that?

I've been hearing good things of Dr. Horrible! I'll check it out during lunch tomorrow...

As for the eTV thing on the left, the group actually had me remove that entire section so now, it's the navigation followed by the 125x125 ad. I guess that takes care of that...
