BusinessWeek's Web Design Special Report
I'm totally shocked that BusinessWeek has a Special Report on Web Design. I'm even more surprised that the articles are actually pretty useful for a designer. (the podcast at the bottom is particularly interesting.)

Design Questions
Here are some questions I picked up from Kelly Goto (Web Resign 2.0 | Workflow that Works) and some from a previous post from Jennie about how we should roll. Am I missing anything?
Audience Profile
Choose a typical visitor and profile them in detail Include occupation
1. Age range
2. Gender
3. Online frequency
4. Online activities
5. And other relevant information that will help bring our audience profile mentioned above to life
Perception/Tone/Guidelines
1. What does the target audience think and feel about Machine Design and it's current website?
2. What should the users first thoughts be after seeing the site redesign?
Competitive Positioning
1. What specifically sets Machine Design apart from your competition?
Targeted Message
1. What should be the take-away message of the redesigned site?
2. How can we visually communicate that message (i.e. open, contained, dark, light, authoritative, etc.)?

Penton Internal Journal Logo Design Contest
Not sure if you guys caught that last edition of the Penton Internal Journal, but they are having a contest for a brand-spanking, new logo.
I think we should make a run for it and try to win this thing. The deadline is next Monday, September 15th. Oh, and the winner gets a $100 gas card (maybe Tiffany can add it to her gas card collection?)
Feel free to post your sketches/roughs/etc. up for crits.

Government Procurement, can you feel the excitement?
Hey, take a look at this latest mock-up of the Goverment Procurement website. (in case it wasn't painfully obvious already, please note that they're still in the process of coming up with a final logo.) You can also see that the client wanted to include everything, including the kitchen sink, on the homepage. Any thoughts/feedback you could provide would be great! Thanks...
